The magical powers of the McFassy Bromance have their claws in me this month... WOW.  Didn't think we'd get anything better than Eisenberg & Garfield quite so soon.

Re that crazy-good WATCHMEN trailer...EW's Comic-Con cover and preview piece are online...and now it may be time to go back and watch the '07 Comic-Con panel vid.

RE that hilarious HANCOCK "unscripted" interview footage...this news here gives that video a whole other level of, um, context. Heh.

Hmm, I see that WoW is finally up and running with lots of content. I stumbled on it because of this totally random BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER reference (from Gail Collins?!? *guffaw*)...but look what's on the front page this morning:

*goes off to poke around the site*

Oooh, they're showing off photos of...THEIR DESKS? The desk meme! LOL. Check out Jane Wagner's desk, I'm frakking jealous -

In related news: this person is starting an LJ comm for fangrrls over 30... [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_ seems to be thinking the same thing... and LJ's front page just featured this comm for Gen-X'ers called [livejournal.com profile] genx_xslacker. Let's party grrls!

I liked it. Did you watch? I'll give it some time, I'm curious to see if they can pull this off on network (ie, censoring the sexy bits).

It's dancing in that area between THE ICE STORM, BOOGIE NIGHTS and AMERICAN BEAUTY.  A rich vein of ore to mine to be sure.

Everything pivots around Molly Parker.  The cast is excellent.  The music, naturellement, is sexy and perfect and is, on a show like this, one of the most important parts.

ETA: Here's the first episode...

...embedded under here for your mile-high viewing pleasure... )
proggrrl: (A series of Tubes?!?)
Before I start braindumping, can I just say...Wow. And, THANK GODS THAT IS OVER. Whew!

I just went a little crazy on Amazon and bought a Flip Video Mino and Metrokane V1 Vacuum Decanter...so be on the lookout for more drunken video posts from me this summer. :D

Now if I can just restrain myself from dropping another fortune over on this insanely cool movie-tee site, I'll get through the month. Seriously though...how can I live without that USCSS NOSTROMO one? Or this one?

PopWatch is right: The Black Cab Sessions are the best thing anyone's going to show you today. (BTW if you liked those, you MUST take a gander at The Blogotheque Takeaway Shows...my personal favorite is this one by The Arcade Fire.)

There is so much TV news pumping out involving great creative minds that it's a bit hard to keep track... let's see, we've got a Spielberg/Cody/Collette project... a Scorcese/Wahlberg/Winter project*... a bit more on the latest David Milch HBO project... Sundance Channel doing the first possibly-worth-my-time reality show... the GREY’S ANATOMY writers blog: you’ve been reading this all season haven’t you?... (finally) the debut of the Treehugger.com-curated green cable channel... ALL OF THE "TWIN PEAKS" TV SHOW NOW ONLINE FREE OF CHARGE...zowie!

[* So if you’re keeping track of that one, it involves the guys who brought you IN TREATMENT and ENTOURAGE, an excellent writer/director from THE SOPRANOS team…and Marty. Fucking. Scorcese. That is all.]

On to the first bit of my summer TV show watching…is anyone else going to give SWINGTOWN a try? I am intrigued. How the hell can they do 'ludes, partner-swapping and orgies on network TV?!?

Here’s the trailer under a cut…groovy baby… )
proggrrl: (Bette D - ORLY?)
I've been curious to see how this was going to come out, since I'm 1) plopped squarely in the middle of its "target audience" and 2) a big, big fan of the original film (which you MUST see, ladies! now!)...looks good to me:

ETA: the high-res version is on Yahoo over here.
proggrrl: (UB the twins)
Apparently this isn't coming out till October. (You know about the book, right?)

[btw better looking version over here.]

This Saturday.  Union Square NYC.  Be There.  With A Pillow!!!

Oh goody, I'm starting an ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS rewatch this week...first DVD just arrived from Netflix.  Feel free to call out your favorite eps - I'm not sure if there are any AbFab fans out there?  I mean gods, who ISN'T a fan.  *glee*

[hat tip to Carrie White Burns In Hell for this French & Saunders vid]

I didn't watch THE X FILES back in the day.  I didn't get all giddy watching these two do their little dance around each other.  But I have to say, even though this is not my fandom, if I saw these magazine covers...I would just lose it.  Can you imagine if Katee Sackhoff/Jamie Bamber, John Krasinski/Jenna Fischer, or Matthew Fox/Evangeline Lilly, showed up in a photo shoot like this?  I'd have a fangirl meltdown.

And, as a more current afterthought: there's also this.  Anderson you KINKY DEVIL.  *giggles*

This post is so random that I could barely think of a title. I'm sitting here at the office, chillaxing after the movie I worked on for so many months, so long and so hard, swept the Oscars in all the top categories. *pats self on back* In a year of fantastic, intense movies by most of the filmmakers I have obsessively tracked my entire adult life (Cronenberg; Burton; Lynch; Coens; Anderson), it was a joy to work on this one.

OK, let's linkspammit people!

Jezebel: "Uh, thanks for RUINING our orgasms, mens magazine!"  I suppose I’m supposed to think this is sad? I just laugh uncontrollably every time I reread this and look at that (what? 100 YEAR OLD?) advertisement clipping at the top. Heh.

Awesome Nathan Fillion/Nicholas Brandon Whedonverse Con panel vids. LOL. Several parts if you have the stomach. Such charming and bizarre boys.

You recall those Paley Center panels that are starting next month with the casts of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, MAD MEN, CHUCK, PUSHING DAISIES, DIRTY SEXY MONEY, and that pesky little BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER reunion? Well how cool is this: you can submit questions for the panels to the Paley Center mods. Open until Monday March 10th. FTW. [via [profile] paleyfest08  ]

Both sad, and hilarious: Spike Jonze's new film version of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE is apparently making children cry in fear at early test screenings. I still cannot wait to see it.

A food comm I read, [profile] about_food  , has posted all the concepts Michael Pollan lays out in his latest book, IN DEFENSE OF FOOD, right here. Please read them and do as many as you can – it’s GOOD FOR YOU! Also that’s a very cool comm if you’re interested in slow food, local food, etc.

OMG, look at this crazy adzuki/green tea cupcake! I don't know if I have the energy to make it...*considers*

I suppose a lot of my flist will consider this old news, but I just found out about this FIREFLY fanfic novel by established fantasy novelist Steven Brust.

Let's discuss for a sec, how much I lurve this photo of Ellen Page. *sigh*

If you missed Jon Stewart's hour last week on Larry King, it's all on youtube now.

Wired has a ton of cool pieces this month that blew my mind, inspired me, made me want to get out and MAKE SHIT, and made me very impatient about my business. Here are the ones that are online now: The mysterious honeybee CCD and the world of 'metagenomics' - reads like a Neal Stephenson or William Gibson plot bunny; FREE STUFF is the future of business (by Chris "Long Tail" Anderson). If you have access to the print mag (free copy available here), check out the pieces in the March issue about online gallieries that let us all become art collectors; the concept of the PMOG - does anyone want to play this sounds AWESOME. Let's all regroup about the PMOG after I can linkspam you later.

SciFi Wire and io9 pimping the WANTED footage screened at Wondercon.  I wanna see!

Let me leave you now with a great quote from this outta-control rant about the Oscars that popped up on Salon today.  You just have to give this writing some props:

Hollywood is always a lopsided reflection of the political situation we're in.

In this sense, performing artists, classically a fairly high-strung, hypersensitive lot, have always been pretty effective canaries in the cultural coal mine. What they've been telling us, lately, is that we have a very, very sick culture on our hands.

It was a terrible, tooth-gnashing year of hideous self-reflection, for America: the ugly flipside of cultural narcissism. Our country, on the back end of a rapacious tear of sophomoric jerkbag behavior, is moving into the slightly more mature adolescent phase of starting to hate its own smell.

I am the greatest country in the world / I am the piece of shit at the center of the universe.

After shaving its head and driving drunk around the globe with no panties, calling itself the Antichrist, and finally abandoning its children, totaling its SUV and getting its ass kicked in the parking lot of the Persian Gulf, America is realizing that it is internationally loathed, broke, soulless, tasteless, fat, drunk, malicious, greedy and stupid, and has been generally behaving like a lousy excuse for a world superpower for long enough to lose all its friends and position.

Conspicuously missing from this Oscars was any loose talk of politics or the war, until the designated time block for dissent during the presentation of the documentary film awards. This was especially weird: Why, if they didn't want to acknowledge the outside world, did they get a truth teller like Jon Stewart to host the thing?

Huzzah!  Who is this Cintra Wilson?

proggrrl: (ATU all in this together)
There have been several memes passing around lately to help get to know your lj friends a bit better. Most of you who are actually on my f-list, as opposed to random readers not signed into livejournal, are here from BSG fandom. Let's get to know each other!  I like this meme (via [profile] starpollo).

Answer any of these questions, all of them, two of them, whatever you fancy.  Comment here with your answers, and we can chat!

You can still participate even if you don't have an active livejournal account.  Comment as "anonymous" and leave an email address, I can ping you to chat.

I am going to put this post on my linksroll at the top of my LJ for a while, for easy reference.  I hope it might make my world a tiny bit FRIENDLIER.

...I just thought you should know."

FULL SEX AND THE CITY TRAILER.  Whoazy - that was fast.  New Line yanked it.

But Jezebel has another (unembedable) link here.  Quickly, quickly now ladies!

Zomg - Big's full name!  Pregnancies!  Shoes!  Cheating hearts!  Huge hats!  Brunches!  Children!  Shattered dreams!  Ridiculously quotable lines!  And of course...

*smiles*

And, word on the street has it that they are already talking about sequels. *dies*

Taking a break from Battlestar Galactica squee this morning...Sigh....

When something's in the trade papers, it gets more weight as real...but a deal's not done till it's done.  OK, well here is VARIETY reporting that NBC is definitely still trying to save FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.  *praying it's true*

Also, I got a very interesting On The QT tip the other day, that supports the rumor that the show is saved.  Sorry but I cannot reveal it.

Slightly OT: how cool is this WOLVERINE cast now?????
- Hugh Jackman
- Ryan Reynolds
- Liev Schreiber
- Will.i.am
- Taylor Kitsch
- Dominic Monaghan
Whoa!!!  Wonder if they're planning to turn up the heat at all in this one...heh.

The rest of you lovelies - move along, nothin' to see here. *g*
