Blasting through my DVR this week with more ease, now that I’ve trimmed a few shows: CHUCK, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, BROTHERS & SISTERS…and CALIFORNICATION because it’s ending.  Sigh.

Here's most of my remaining TV docket...

30 ROCK – *big smile* Wonderful, ridiculous, smart.  Still loving it.  Tina Fey can do no wrong this week after committing these lines to paper:

“Nobody in corporate knows about my cardiac event.”
“MILF island?”
“You could be a freaky-deaky AND do data entry!”
“She needs to lose 30 pounds or gain 60 – anything in between has no place in television.”
“Great! Now I have my ‘Something Old’!”

Seinfeld’s guest appearance (and the Seinfeld Vision thing) were pretty terrific – except for that fugly moment when he looked right AT CAMERA and pimped his movie, which had already been pimped about 20 times by then.  Sigh.  But the elevator scene made up for any unpleasant product placement moments.  That, and watching Fey do her impersonation of Seinfeld, to his face.  That, and the whole “office wife” thing.  That, and MYSTIC PIZZA: THE MUSICAL.  That, and the 2nd best fat suit on TV right now.  Joy!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS - I really, really am happy to have this show back.  As the front credit roll started, it hit me HARD how much I love this show, and how much I missed it!  There were, as usual, a million little reasons to adore it still:  Julie with Saracen and The Swede at the pool...the birth scene...Street talking to the new coach about Riggins...Riggins and Lyla talking about God and hedonism...Lyla's dinnertime prayer...Mrs. Coach realizing Coach is leaving early and missing the next week of his new baby's life for football.  God I love that couple.

As for this "Bad Thing" - I can see why Mo Ryan, Alan Sepinwall and others are worried.  BUT, I have to trust this show and its TPTB not to take it too far off-track.  It's far better to see this sort of sudden drastic event than the likely alternative: non-stop harassment, and possibly rape, dragged on for several eps.  Guys like that usually don’t just disappear.  Sepinwall seems a bit TOO worried (here he is talking to showrunner Katims about it; yes that’s the same Katims who is now working on BIONIC WOMAN as well).  I'm not worrying, and agree with House Next Door on this one - especially given how kick-ass this premiere was in general.  Oh and for you spoiler hounds, Mo’s got more about some of the upcoming eps over here.

Also tiny hilarious thing that [profile] wisteria_ noticed, the “get your own Tim Riggins” bug…she posted it too. *hee hee*

Welcome back FNL!!!

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES – Which I only watched for Nathan Fillion…and after watching just one ep, all the reasons I stopped watching late in S2 came flooding back.  So I’ve deleted the season pass.  Oh, Nathan. *long sigh*

BROTHERS & SISTERS – I think GREY’S & PRIVATE PRACTICE are going to be the most I can stand of manipulative, tearjerker soaps that have incredible casts and well-handled-yet-overthetop adult themes.  Especially now that FNL is back on, these shows come off as obvious, manipulative, overdramatic.  So I’ve deleted this show after much internal debate – mainly because I adore Sally Field, Rachel Griffiths and Ron Rifkin.  Not for me but: if you are at all interested in night-time family soaps, this one is the best network has to offer right now.

And about BATTLESTAR: RAZOR FLASHBACK #1 – Cool.  A nice way to take a chunk off the hiatus.  My desire to be unspoiled is keeping me away from discussion of possible BSG: TOS plots involving some "planet of ice"  *covering my ears and not listening LALALALALALA*.  I love the guy they’ve chosen to play Young Adama and I love him getting his rookie speech from a woman pilot.  And yeah, he really does look like Lee, doesn’t he? (Arms and all.)  Thanks to
[personal profile] heliotitans who has already iconed the flashback for us…oh joyous fandom.

Still haven’t watched PUSHING DAISIES.  Whatever.  *tired*

Between seeing FNL and FIGHT CLUB on cable last night, I am overwhelmed by bigscreeenlittlescreen excellence.  The best of the best.  When it’s good, it’s very, very good.

Here’s some miscellaneous stuff making me smile today:
  • A crazy person at TV Squad has transcribed Tripp Darling’s diary! Whoa.
I watched this episode with my best friend, and she said, "If you like vampire smut, you kind of have to like this show." And we both like vampire smut.

(Something about hearing a “pro” writer admit this on AOL’s web site makes me…IDK.  Pleased?)
