A friend composed a nice letter and figured out where to send it.  (If you don't know what this is about, and need details, see here.)

I thought I'd reproduce it here for y'all with a few changes I made.  Send it in, you never know, it could help.

ANGRY ABOUT THE PROSPECT OF ANOTHER LONG HIATUS?

Please feel free to adopt this form letter as your own and pass on to friends to send VIA SNAIL MAIL.

1. Personalize at will. I highly recommend that you change/personalize the text as much as possible, for that added touch.  TPTB will notice.  Suggestions: tell something about who you and your viewer friends are, how you watch the show, how a long hiatus affects YOUR viewing patterns.
2. USE SNAIL MAIL to send to Bonnie Hammer and Mark Stern. These days, "real" letters are much more impressive than email.
3. Forward this letter to as many others as possible.

Dear Ms. Hammer and Mr. Stern:

I am writing to express my concern about a rumor that the network is considering airing the fourth and final season of Battlestar Galactica in two 10-episode blocks separated with close to a one-year break.

Another long hiatus after a partial season would be disruptive to the storytelling and thus greatly disappoint viewers who have invested time and emotion in the show. A show with complex characters, relationships, and story arcs requires more than 10 episodes to qualify as a satisfying “season” to leave viewers with before taking a long break. I strongly urge you to reconsider this model, and to develop a schedule that allows either continuous airing of the 20 episodes or at least one with a short break between parts of the season.

I am an avid fan of Battlestar Galactica and have convinced many friends and colleagues to watch the show. The airing of the full third season in a reasonable time frame with a modest holiday hiatus facilitated my viewing and encouraged friends to pick up the show. The reaction to this possible decision in my community has been universally negative.

The network’s rumored adoption of a split season with a long hiatus would undermine relations with both current and new viewers. I believe a more consistent schedule during the show’s final season would strengthen the network’s relationship with its current fan base, ensure continuation of relationships with new viewers, and establish a position as a network that can be trusted with viewers’ commitment of time and interest. Fans would highly regard such as decision, make a date to see the show each week, and bring in more viewers to that show and other network programs.

At the end of the day, a final chapter in a great story needs to be told in one sitting. Allow that pleasure to your Battlestar Galactica viewers, and you will be rewarded with new ones for future programming.

Thank you for listening.

Sincerely,

(you)

In a way they are showing BSG the way the British show a series, in very short runs.

It's not the 10-ep issue that many of us are freaking out about - it's the idea that there may be 7-10 months IN BETWEEN the airing of those two sets.

Here in the US, only The Sopranos (and in the future, Lost) have dared such long hiatus off-air.

Good luck with the campaign!

I think however this is the new normal for effects heavy series.

Dr. Who is taking a whole two years from regular season levened by a few movies.

Yes I saw that...but I also know someone who just told me that she saw RDM over 3 months ago in person, and he seemed to know about this split thing even then.

I wonder what the REAL reason is. They don't have any larger a budget than they've had in the past, and they've been able to do SFX just fine without 7-10 month hiatus.

And The Sopranos didn't do it because of FX...

I think the comments comparing this break to what Brit tv series do is a bit disingenious - Brit tv seasons are short, and are filmed to be short. Afterlife is a good example - one of my favourite series, where the first season was 6 long episodes ending at a definite end of series break with lots of lines resolved and lots opened up. BSG and other US series have never really operated on a short format - it'd be one thing if they said "we're going to do two seasons set to 13 eps like S1" with the clear intent from the start to make them good, discrete seasons... but just splitting a season around the midpoint? TEOJ wasn't a good cliffhanger and generated very little debate. It'd work maybe if they can end on something as good as Pegasus was, but...

Mainly I think this is money-orientated studio suits deliberately misleading the fanbase and being generally deserving of a good pummeling, but as a UK viewer my views count even less than anyone elses do!

This is great. I am up for a bit of BSG activism!!I feel like doing my bit. It has been hard enough already. Thanks for the inspiration.

I heard about this for the first time today and think it would be a monumentally stupid move on the station's part. I and most of my friends were terribly disappointed in about 70% of season three. If I think the first half of season 4 is as substandard as I though season three was, it's pretty much guaranteed that I won't watch it if there's a huge break like this.

Thanks for posting this letter! Two hard copies are on their way to snail mail this very moment!

This is a great idea and thanks for coming up with the letter. I wanted to add a suggestion - the networks love demographics and they love the 19-34 age range, so be sure to list your age if you fall in that group.

Hi!
I know I was blogging about a lot of cash advance and payday loans, but I will never be able to stop blogging about it. Whenever I see that some Web site offers other services, I would compare them with the other and, finally, a blog about their benefits. This is the actual way to evaluate any service, too.
