A short tutorial
Mar. 31st, 2007 04:38 pmHere's a basic info tutorial for anyone new to LJ trying to just post and use it in a basic way...for all my skiffy board friends who are making their way over here bit by bit...
After you have created an account and signed in to LJ, go to your journal.
Below is a photo of the top of my journal:

To post to my journal, I go to POST TO JOURNAL.
To edit something already posted, I go to MANAGE ENTRIES.
To see who I am friends with, what communities I am joined to, my user info, etc, I go to the USER INFO page (see down under the google ads banner).
If I select HOME, it brings me to the LJ home page and the top menu changes to this:

Notice that you can access your MESSAGES on this page, POST in your journal, jump to your own FRIENDS PAGE, or select HELP to view FAQs and other info.
To manage userpics, either go to your User Info page, or here on the Home page, go to PROFILE -> MANAGE USERPICS.
Anyone you select as your friend, and any communities you have joined or started "watching," will list their posts on your friends page. It's basically an RSS feed for everyone else you've friended on LJ. They can see all of your journal posts on their friends page too, if they have friended you back.
If you want to post to a community you belong to, such as the K/L Shippers Hiatus from Hell community, you need to sign in and go to the comm's home page. There the top menu will look like this:

Press POST TO THIS COMMUNITY to create your post; this post will appear on this comm, as well as on the Friends Page of anyone who is a member of the comm.
To COMMENT on anyone else's post, you will see 'POST A COMMENT' and 'REPLY' links all over the place. A comment is different from a post, in that it will only be seen by those who read that post. It doesn't get on anyone's friends pages, etc...
Hope this was helpful.
