I'm outside the US so it's not working for me, but I've been wondering about it - how is it working? It's like any other streaming site except that it's legal and filled with ads/sponsors, right?
It's got excellent resolution, it's a wider screen shape than youtube. Looks damn good on full-screen mode. You can find a lot of non-Hulu videos through their search engine. Full embeddability to other sites/blogs...and you can even embed JUST A SHORT CLIP, rather than an entire episode, if you prefer. I haven't used that feature yet, but it's pretty jolly.
Other than the not surprising USA-only issue, the other problem now is that it's still in beta so it's not fully unlocked to EVERYONE. But I'm sure they'll open it up soon enough.
Ads really aren't that bad, there's much less than if you were watching TV.
YT is pure crap. Stage6 was the best when it comes to quality and loading but they're closing in 2 days :( I guess it's the downloading feature that ruined them...
I actually don't watch TV at all. Only streaming and erm... similar ;) There's nothing worse than dubbing ergo there's nothing worse than French TV ;)
Wow, you are the first one from outside USA I've known to complain openly about YT...mainly because I think most of my friends are just happy to use it as a way to bypass most of the USA-only restrictions on other sites. *g*
YT's vid quality completely BLOWS. And yes, sites that allow free DL's of vids are just going to get killed. What's popped up around YT is this network of completely separate sites that have ways to save off the YT vids. And software. Every time I do a new search for those sites/software shares, there are 10 new ones and the old ones are gone. Hah.
Can you watch imeem from France? I mean stuff posted there from USA/elsewhere?
And as for the DL'ing...I hear you sistah. I work in film marketing and I realize the whole business-deal side of this is making things VERY COMPLICATED to just open up all the products (films/shows) so that anyone, anywhere can DL them. But hopefully things will be worked out over time in this area to encourage quick, easy global distribution that's, erm, LEGAL.
Meanwhile, fandom obvs doesn't give a frak, and will torrent its collected ASS OFF.
Say, OT: are you going to submit any questions for the Paley MAD MEN fest? Do they know about that over on the comm?

Seriously? Most people I know can't stand that place, but then again they're just as quality snobby as I am. It's only useful when it comes to mp3s. I don't think I've ever actually watched a movie over there.

Yeah, no problem with imeem and similar. It's just the legal, official sites that are restricted. TV shows/movies - best times were with tvlinks still around and Stage6 running. Now I'm mostly sticking to SurfTheChannel but they have a lot of links to stuff hosted on tudou and veoh which are painfully slow to load (even with 20 mega Internet :/), not to mention crappy quality and Asian subtitles.

See, I'm all for legal files sharing. I really am. And even if I download a lot, I still spend a freaking fortune on DVDs, so the eternal "pirates are stealing artists' money" excuse is pissing me off. I won't even mention how much of it is actually taken by the studios, agents, prs, etc. Still - I like to know what I'm getting before I buy. If I like the movie/tv show I'll most likely buy it on DVD. Oh and people would download less if the prices weren't so horrendous. It's cheaper than it used to be, but a new released DVD bought in a regular store costs here around 20 euros (15 dollars?). Which is nothing when you buy just a couple per month, but if you're a movie addict like me, you're not gonna stop at 2 titles...

I have no idea. I had million questions I forgot to ask Vincent, but they kinda seemed better when asked in person than submitted in writing... I dunno. I'm not good at coming up with something original to ask and I don't want them to be annoyed when asked about the same things over and over again. And I'm not sure if people know about it over on madmen_tv. That place is dead most of the time :( But honestly I really hope they'll get a lot of good questions. From what I heard the NY (?) panel they did was pretty disappointing. But then again it's not that easy to come up with something interesting to say. I still can't believe I asked Vincent about so many ridiculous things lol
