OK.  For serious.  Here are two great posts on Watch With Kristin and The Ausiello Report where you can get up-to-the-minute news on the status of your fave TV shows now that the strike is pretty much over.   And this Variety piece is about the pilots that will most likely be on the fast track now for next fall.

The Variety article totally fooled me. I read "pilots likely on fast track" to be "OUR" !pilots! and not show pilots. lol

Unless it loses focus, Mad Men is on track to usurping BSG in my heart. That probably wouldn't be the case if BSG wasn't ending, but as it is... Maybe it's a self-defense mechanism.

A few of the upcoming new shows look interesting... I have a weakness for well-written cop shows and pretty much anything by Joss Whedon. It'll be interesting to see how many of the early strike time predictions like more British/Canadian/Australian shows being picked up and show formats shifting from 20-24 epoisode seasons to 5-6 episode seasons will actually come true...

Yeah...RE buying int'l shows, it may happen since the whole new show works are gunked up by strike delays. It would be amazing to see them go down to just 5-6 ep seasons...unlikely I imagine...but 10-13 eps is fine for summer shows and may become fine in general. Especially since at least one network (NBC) has announced they are ending the typical pilot season insanity in favor of year-round production.

BTW, to change subjects: did you get that theater manager (?) job? Or did you have an interview? I have not kept up very well with my flist this month! I hope you got it!

MAD MEN, should it survive past S2, and I assume it will, will make a fantastic - though essentially different - new favorite show.

I see by your comments over at madmen_tv that you saw this S2 spoiler. That is SUCH A COOL IDEA! I am so excited to see S2.

If you have found any other good news sites/blogs for MAD MEN, let me know. I know about Basket Full of Kisses. But that's it.

Maybe one of the differences is that I'm used to seeing things serialised here in 60/90/120 minute episodes over a total airtime of six or eight hours, and usually without advert breaks. It's a striking difference to the cable channels, where everything is 42-43 minute episodes with loads of space for advertising.

I'm hoping that the 7 or 8 episode arc for Jericho will prove a good industry model - I'd love to see shows that are more tightly written, rather than padded up to 20 episodes with nothing episodes. Anything that ends the current pilot season madness has to be good - I remember hearing some of the Galactica cast talking about being at the second callback for a two line part, along with 49 other people.

I got the job :) It's not theatre manager though, sadly... that'd be too much fun ;) I'm a performance manager, officially - responsible for reporting our team's performance, constructing internal business agreements, that sort of thing. Mostly, I deal with silly questions :P That and do project reporting, write briefs and presentations, that sort of thing. It's a huge salary bump up to the next grade though - my pay's been screwed over by the current government repeatedly, and after five years in grade I was only one step above the bottom of the pay band, which means the bottom of the band I've moved up to was well above my currently salary. Hello, 25% payrise :)
