Friday braindump time!

Ahahaha [personal profile] hollywoodgrrl – they made a tee shirt of it!

Photojojo has a bunch of very cool Photoshop tutorials on how to put movie-effects on your pix.

American pop culture (and the Apple computer) may save our image abroad?

Gee, I would have enjoyed seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar take the lead role in STARDUST, she would've made a terrific Yvaine.  Sigh.

FUN ON  MYSPACE:  M.I.A., bless her awesome soul, is now streaming her ENTIRE new album on her Myspace page.  Here’s Rolling Stone’s great review, for those of you who are not yet obsessed with this talented lady.  You can also see the entire first S3 ep of IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA on Myspace.  THE ONION has a MyspaceTV channel.  Check out their hilarious "INTERNETS CRASHED" news report.  Love them (note the crawl)!

GATEWAY DRUGS: Warner Home Video is going to sell two-show package sets for a discount price, S1 of LA FEMME NIKITA & BABYLON 5; S1 of VERONICA MARS with GILMORE GIRLS; SMALLVILLE with SUPERNATURAL.  Great idea.

W00t!!!! Colbert DVD on the way…<3  <3  <3

Star Trek is allowing even more fan/IP interaction, in a really good way, by allowing fans and pro H’wood folks to make a new ep of ST:TOS starring George Takei.

THE FANVID FACTOR?  Apparently ABC is so into promotional TV show music videos (which they played with a little bit last season), that they’re going whole hog this year and making tons of them for UGLY BETTY, GREY’S ANATOMY, and other shows.

Nathan Fillion is working on a new indie film called TRUCKER.

FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS, ENTOURAGE, and SAVING GRACE have all been renewed.  Thank goodness!  Now if I can just get word on MAD MEN I'll be all set.

Jeff Bridges talks about the far-reaching love for The Dude as part of an upcoming book about THE BIG LEBOWSKI. *hee hee*

For anyone who read the new HARRY POTTER book and wasn't satisfied with the epilogue...check this out (SPOILER ALERT! Do not touch if you plan to read HP7).  And EW interviewed Dan Radcliffe just after he finished reading the final book.

Boing Boing has lots of links to the excellent slow food/slow living art of Douglas Gayeton.  Here’s the piece on biodynamic wine-making.

HBO has made a deal with DAILY SHOW/COLBERT REPORT mastermind producer Ben Karlin.  Good news for us!

FUN ON YOUTUBE:   Yeah this song, If This Ain’t Love by Nicole Willis and the Soul Investigators, is pretty great.   And this vid has me licking my lips…actually strawberry season is over – but this recipe applies to all the berries and stone fruits currently in season here (raspberries…blackberries…blueberries…peaches… plums…nectarines…*passes out from the yummy*)   One of my favorite authors, William Gibson, has a blog.  He pointed me to this Second Life vid.  I love the fact that the commenters on Youtube who like SL see the vid as homage - whereas I see it as satirical commentary (and I think we can guess where Gibson stands).  My pal Lil'Jew mentioned this recent Werner Herzog interview where Herzog got shot by an air rifle in the midst of filming.  That got me reminiscing about how I first heard of Herzog long ago, via this short Les Blank film (I was a Les fan after seeing his marvelous GARLIC IS AS GOOD AS TEN MOTHERS. Yummmmm.  Here are two clips.)   This led to me finding another fun blog to read.  Oh, where does the time go?   A truly scary PSA made by David Lynch and his BLUE VELVET cinematographer!  (Why does he care about keeping NYC clean?)   And, heh, you knew this was coming: Chocolate Rain...by Darth Vader?

Epicurious, which has for many years now been a great resource for free recepies from the Conde Nast magazine archives (Gourmet, Food & Wine, etc), is finally setting up a dense blog on their site.  Could be fun.  My favorite thing about this site is all the user comments on the recipies - readers suggest ways to make everything better, good substitution ideas, and which recipies are just not worth the time.

I <3 LIBRARIANS: I found this Learning 2.0 Project and The 23 Things tutorial for Librarians really inspiring – open source education at its finest.

GLOBAL ECONOMIC WOES: The chaos in the markets confuses me, because I'm terrible with that sort of stuff.  I read this New York mag piece by Jim Cramer last week and it made me nervous for my 401K & IRA.  This Salon piece may explain it better...but I don't feel any better for reading it.  I always thought those subprime housebuying loans and refinance deals were ridiculous - if you don't have enough money to buy all the bright shiny stuff - DON'T BUY IT.  Pretty simple I thought; though if you need $$$ fast for a medical procedure or other emergency, I can see how this would come in handy.  This is a moment in time where my lack of owning a home seems like a good thing.  Ack.
