Cheering up and changing subjects

OK here's other things to ponder:
This is a gorgeous post about fandom and its ellusive powers. Just wanted to share.
My list of things to do to get your mind off of BSG's "WE'RE DONE" announcement:
1. Sign up to get notified when Katee Sackhoff’s Lifetime film will be airing in July.
2. Go back to the pretty pretty picspams for eyecandy before you dress up and go outside and enjoy RL for a while. (This will only work for you K/L shippers out there.)
3. Continue (or for some of you, just get started) with the huge fandomosphere of fiction writing, vids, graphic design art, picspams and commentary around this great show. If you are just starting to find these things, I have a few suggestions. I have a list of fanfiction & vid recs that focus on A/S shippy stuff if that’s your bag. To find everything else in fandom, see this list that the mods at
battlestar_blog have put together (go halfway down the page), and this list over at
galacticanews. Also Galactica Sitrep has a great blogroll of links.
4. I find that reading this instant classic, which is hilarious, always cheers me up. Add something!
5. Watch La Femme Nikita or Farscape. If you like angsty lovers, cool scifi, and/or great female characters, this will cheer you up. (Warning: second half of Farscape Season 1 seems to be on permanent ‘not available’ mode right now on Netflix – send them and email and complain! Grrrrr Arrrrggh)
6. Ponder the fact that Joss Whedon is still a God. <3 <3 <3

I really enjoyed that Salon piece about the Pottercon, Phoenix Rising.
But gods, why is everyone so damned obsessed with fanfic right now? Enough already. Well, I’m not surprised actually, it’s pretty fab. Here’s Salon gushing over the weird wild sexy reality of Potterverse fandom and its rainbow of factions.
Love this bit, as halfway through her piece, the writer is realizing that this Potterfandom stuff is actually great:
The conference was suddenly making me very happy. As Justice said, while discussing Rowling's borrowing from the Egyptian myth of Osiris, Horus, Isis and Set, "The way Rowling's mind works is beautiful." I had to agree, and take her point further: The way the minds of Rowling's fans work is nearly as impressive.
Despite my quibbles with overzealous fan-fic authors, this was one hell of an accepting crowd, one in which a teenager was as welcome to weigh in as a professor, where discussion of philosophy was as compelling as discussion of technology, where it didn't matter if you were from a Christian fundamentalist or Wiccan background, and where even the fiercest debate could teach an ardent fan something new.
There's not a lot in popular cultural life that's built for smart people anymore. Harry Potter really is.

My new favorite song lyrics, which has inspired me to remove the AATW references and retitle my journal for the hellliatus...funny thing is, I really cannot dig lcd's new album. maybe i should try again?
There is a new book called EVERYTHING IS MISCELLANEOUS, that looks very cool - and the prologue and first chapter are up online for free perousal by all. Neato.
