So.  Debra Dickerson...great Colbert Report guest?  Or, GREATEST guest ever?  ROFLMAO.  Sphincterlike.  Heh.

As my subject line quote indicates, the end of this week's FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS also blew me away.  Show just keeps being so darned excellent.  TV is pwning me these days.  And TORCHWOOD starts tonight here in the states! *glee*

I have to say I was very moved this week by things beamed through on the Idiot Box.

First was The Colbert Report.  He gives $171,000 to charity - raised from his fandom buying those WristStrong bracelets.  That was one muthahumping BIG CHECK, eh?  LOL. You can keep donating, btw.  But then, even more impressive, the show turns insanely earnest and heartfelt - and Colbert reveals a fascinating fact about his heritage, has a very impressive guest from the civil rights movement - and performs the sweetest tribute to his striking writers!  Awwwwww.  *tears up*  Clips here.

Second was this appearance by Daniel Day Lewis on Oprah yesterday.  *wiping tears away*  RIP, Heath.

Third - though no tears were shed - was this week's third ep of TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.  This was much less of a blockbuster, action-heavy ep, and spent tons of time putting a more complex story into play with multiple threads and arcs.  I loved how much SCIENCE and HISTORY they crammed into this ep, it was smart.  Loved the skin bath.  There was a lot going on and it was done well.  Obviously this show - this Terminator franchise - promises massive amounts of action.  But this ep also shows that hard scifi can be crammed into the mix nicely along with the explosions and the fighting bots.  I missed having tons of GlauBot action, but I know there'll be plenty of that to come.  Jeez we sure have an amazing array of GirlBots in pop culture right now, and they are all awesome - Katee Sackhoff, Summer Glau, Lucy Lawless and Tricia Helfer.  W00t.   (The ep is up on Fox.com streaming for free.)

I am sure all you Colbert Report fans have already seen the Colbert half of "the feud"...but have you seen O'Brien's follow up?

Also, have you seen this hilarious coverage of the crowds coming in to view the Colbert portrait that he somehow convinced the National Gallery in Washington to hang right near the Hall of Presidents? ROFL
proggrrl: (Colbert-suffering the strike)
Rejoice my fellow David Milch fans - for now is news that all those "Idea of The Writer" lectures Milch gave in LA last month HAVE BEEN POSTED ONLINE.  *joy*

Also, on a side strikenews note...The Colbert Report managed to be pretty darned hilarious even without his writers.  How the frak'd he do that? *g*  The Daily Show was fun too - but I am NOT sympathetic to Jon Stewart's whining about the WGA not making a deal with his production company.  He's a very smart guy - don't tell me he doesn't understand the reason Worldwide Pants gets a deal and he doesn't.  His company is owned by Viacom isn't it!

btw new friend [personal profile] warriorpoet - OMG! You're on TCR!!!! LOL (Hope you saw what I'm talking about!)

...when you're starving for new Stephen Colbert (and/or Jon Stewart) material...Here's Colbert's taped intro to Viacom exec Phil Dauman's May 07 D5 appearance:

Ahhhhh.  Relief!  Good thing the WGA doesn't cover work on the internet or at tech conferences!

(And yeah, I know it's old...but it's NEW TO ME.  So it counts.)

Hey Boston area fans - who ever thought you'd get to rally for the cause with both Joss Whedon AND some guys from THE DAILY SHOW? FTW. Just saw this on Fans4Writers:

Hey, everyone. So our Boston rally for fans and writers is officially on the books! Here are the details:

We are planning the event for Friday, December 14th from 12 noon - 3 pm. There will be an assembly of writers, fans (and potentially celebrity guests!) at the distinguished public affairs program Cambridge Forum in the Meeting House of the historic First Parish (Unitarian Universalist) Church, 3 Church St., Cambridge, MA 02138. There, guest speakers (which so far include Joss Whedon, Rob Kutner with a few of his Daily Show crew, and myself) will say a few words of thanks to our fans and talk about the cause they're supporting. Once we are sufficiently pumped up, everyone will march with picket signs and pamphlets throu gh Harvard Square to a rally outside of the famed Harvard Lampoon building, where so many great television comedy writers cut their teeth. It will offer a chance for Boston fans and writers to walk side by side, show the media and AMPTP that we're galvanized in our cause, and we're growing. We know our position is just, and we'll keep adding similar demonstrations in cities across the country until we get a fair deal. (In the event that an agreement between the Guild and the AMPTP is reached prior to the rally, we'll simply change the focus to a celebration of the resolution.)

Your job is to show up and bring your friends! We want fans of all shows and films in attendance. We wouldn't be here without you and we want to show the studios and networks that our fans are a force to be reckoned with. So get on the fan boards and spread the word.

I hope to see you on Friday, December 14th. It's going to be a memorable event.

In solidarity,

Jaime Paglia
EP/co-creator "Eureka"

OK that is super cool.

Also, you Los Angeles area Whedonverse fans can go show your support for the writers of the Mutant Enemy clan at their picket day on December 7th.  All details and a map of location at Fox Studios here.
proggrrl: (Jon Stewart OMG!)
I miss him too. Don't we all?

*giggles*

Every day it's gets a bit harder to live in a world where there is no Stewart, Colbert, SNL, Maher, Leno or Letterman...Have you called the nets yet?  Have you sent pencils?

Can I take a break this morning to say that ALL my TV is pwning me right now.

I'm talking last week's 30 ROCK, GREY'S ANATOMY, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. This past weekend's TORCHWOOD (and really, all the eps for the past month); a profound (and profoundly BI) show. The season finales of CALIFORNICATION and TELL ME YOU LOVE ME.

BSG: RAZOR. You know how I feel.

And most especially this and last week's HEROES. Wow.

Almost totally makes up for complete abscence of DAILY SHOW, COLBERT REPORT...and the news that 30 ROCK has shut down, HEROES is probably ending for the season in 3 weeks...and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA season 4 is going dark this week till further notice.

*STAND STRONG WRITERS!*

Meanwhile, I am collecting a bunch of things for us to do if everything completely shuts down for months and months. Most of it will be movie-related. We're not there yet. Hopefully the Hollywood agents will broker a deal before things get super duper ugly.

How's everyone doing? Work pwnd ME last night, so no RAZOR screening for me...did anyone go?
proggrrl: (Heroes Bell'l killya)
I agree with Anne Thompson, who agrees with EW.com: this WGA strike will probably bring a zillion new film/TV folks into the blogosphere. That's a good thing. It's already having an effect on Joss Whedon (3 times in one week! *joy*) and Damon Lindelof, and a lot of other writers.  Most important of all, Josh Friedman has posted.  After 10 months of silence! *glee*

*additional glee about Friedman being the showrunner for THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES*

Not surprisingly, internet/tech guru Marc Andreessen really gets what is going on, down to the roots. The Titanic hit an iceberg 10 years ago, and the Captain is just noticing now. Also, as usual: when Mark Harris is right, he is very, very, very right.

I still say these writers (and directors and actors) should consider what the internet did to the music business.  It's not all doom and gloom.  Many artists have figured out how to make this work to their advantage.

Meanwhile:
  • This is ridiculously hilarious. And hawt. This is just hawt. (Yes, that was Milo.) This is just hilarious. (You rock David Anders!)  Thanks JK & Adrian, for making my day a bit sunnier.
  • This trailer for Denzel Washington/Oprah Winfrey's film THE GREAT DEBATERS looks terrific.

And BSG fans in the Los Angeles area? What are you doing on Friday morning?
proggrrl: (Colbert BRAVO!)
Stewart Will Keep Striking 'Daily' Writers Afloat
If the writers strike fails, it won't be on account of Jon Stewart.

In a show of solidarity with his fellow scribes, the Daily Show host has told his writing staff that he will cover all their salaries for the next two weeks, according to a well-placed source. He has also vowed to do the same for writers on The Colbert Report.

That is pretty great, huh?

(Also via the above piece I found this: Rolling Stone's first-ever digital issue.  Nifty...if a bit slow-loading.  Stewart's inty is on page 123.)
proggrrl: (MM lol well Pete will kill you)
As usual, you can look to The Daily Show (which has gone dark in support of the strike) to summarize it clean and simple:

Want more details?  United Hollywood, a blog written by several WGA members, is a great resource.

We TV fans are going to feel the effects of a long strike right away.
proggrrl: (Colbert/Stewart OTP)
OK one clip down and 10 more to find...*glee*

OK, here is the aforementioned new DAILY SHOW video site...

www.thedailyshow.com

I'll be playing with this thing later this week to figure out how to access all the old Stephen Colbert, Rob Cordry, Steve Carell, and Mo Rocca footage I've always wanted to see again from 2-5 years ago...*glee*

I see [profile] wisteria_ has already been playing with it, heh!
proggrrl: (Kermit YAY)
I can hardly contain myself.  Seriously.

Jon Stewart extends his run on 'The Daily Show' through 2010

"I love doing this show. . . . I look forward to using this extension to having great fun at President Colbert's expense..."

WWWHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
proggrrl: (Jon Stewart OMG!)
How can the Stephen-Colbert-Jon-Stewart-verse take it up a notch during this election cycle?  I am sooooooo pleased with the answer, heh heh...

LOL - he's gonna do MEET THE PRESS this Sunday!!!

And, quieter but even bigger news today:
In the ongoing quest to make Internet popularity pay, Viacom's Comedy Central channel today will unveil a website for "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" that's designed to satisfy the most avid fans of the mock-news show with oceans of free video clips.

Rather than providing just a sampling of the program's fare, as Viacom and other TV networks have done for years, Comedy Central is offering the works: about 13,000 video clips representing every minute of the show since its 1999 inception.
